    Choosing of Suspension Gear Parameters of Coache Model 61-779

    EN: Researches that focused on choosing of running gear's parameters and especially on spring suspension parameters are very important during creation of new passenger rolling stock. In the research calculations that determine strength characteristics of springs of central and axle-box suspension gear of bogies during its (bogies) using under coaches' (passenger cars) model 61-779 of JSC "Kryukov car-building company" are done and relevant dynamic parameters are determined. The simulation used a computer program «DYNRAIL», developed in Dnepropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport (DNURT). As a result of research parameters of spring suspension for designs of new passenger cars chosen.

    Construction Analysis of Mechanical Parts of Locomotives

    EN: To determine the dynamic properties of the mainline freight locomotives, characterizing the safe movement on straight and curved sections of track in the whole range of operating speeds, you need a set of studies including selection of design scheme, the development of an appropriate mathematical model of spatial fluctuations of the locomotive, making a computer calculation program, conducting the theoretical, and then experimental investigations of new designs. In this case, one should compare the results with existing constructions. One of the necessary conditions for improving the quality of traction rolling stock is to define the parameters of its running gears. Among the questions related to this problem, an important place occupies the problem of determining dynamic qualities of the locomotives at the stages of design, taking into account with the chosen technical solutions in the running gear design. The work focuses on key tendencies of some types of main locomotives embodiment, focusing on improving the running gears design. As a result of investigations one can see that the creation of a modern locomotive requires from designers and scientists realization of scientific and technical solutions providing the design speed increase with simultaneous improvement of the traction, braking and dynamic qualities to provide the simple and reliable construction, especially construction of the running gear, reducing the operating costs, low original cost and operating costs for the total service life, high traction force during take-off, work capability in the multiple traction mode, maximally approximated to the limited clutch and sufficient design speed. Research of mathematical modeling is conducted by the method of numerical integration of the dynamic loading of the main-line locomotive using the software system «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles» («DYNRAIL»). Design features of the running gear elements of some types of the main-line locomotives, which have inclined rods between bogie and the body, transmitting the traction forces between them and providing essential dynamic performance of the carriage motion are studied.

    Design Review of Gondola Car

    EN: Purpose. To ensure the constantly growing volume of freight transportations it is necessary to introduce the innovation rolling stock. It should have the best technical and economic parameters in comparison with the existing fleet. Gondola car is the most popular type of railway freight car. Designs of the modern gondolas are based on many years of operating experience and numerous tests carried out by design and research organizations in the field of car building. To improve the body structure of gondolas it is necessary to perform a review of the existing structures and to identify the trends in their improvement. Methodology. The works on improvement the designs of produced gondolas are held by many engineering organizations in almost all industrialized countries. Analysis of the existing body designs of gondola cars is possible by analyzing the research in the field of transport engineering, namely patents, scientific articles, producers catalogues and so on. Findings. When analyzing it was determined that there are gondolas of different designs, but the most common are the gondolas with a solid floor and unloading hatches, the covers of which form the floor of gondola design. An effective method for reducing the gondola empty weight and increasing the body volume is also the use of aluminum alloy instead of steel. Results of the improvement analysis of the gondola bodies` designs showed that the creation of the modern gondola car requires from designers and scientists the implementation of scientific and technical solutions providing the increase of carrying capacity and the body volume, reduction of the gondolas empty weight, increase in repair intervals while improving the strength and dynamic qualities at the same time. Originality. For the first time the gondolas designs were analyzed, their advantages and disadvantages were considered and the trends in improvement of the given structures of gondola cars were determined. Practical value. The generalization of theoretical, scientific and methodological, experimental studies aimed at further improving the technical and economic parameters of gondola cars are urgent when improving the body structure of the gondola cars. The above mentioned design features of the bodies of some models of modern gondola cars have practical value and can be used in further developments.

    Determination of Dynamic Performance of Freight Cars Taking into Account Technical Condition of Side Bearers

    EN: Purpose. The railway transport plays an important role in social and economic life of the country and carries out the large containment of transportation activities. The transport industry should migrate towards innovation changes and increase its significance as an important transit subsystem on the way of renovation of both the infrastructure and the strategy of all transportation process components including the interaction with other transport modes. At present the life sets strategic challenges for the railway branch, and the basic goals among them are as follows: high-speed train traffic development, increase of the weight of freight trains, new rolling stock development etc. Due to the urgency of this subject, the researchers should cope with the task devoted to one of aspects of improving the freight transportation efficiency, namely to the study of effects of various factors and characteristics of technical conditions of the freight cars running gears (which are unavoidable to arise during operation) on their basic dynamic indices. The deviations of technical conditions of running gears from the normal state of the wedge system of bogie swing suspension also play an important role among them. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the influence of different factors of the technical conditions of freight car running gears (size deviation in both the bearers and the wedge system during operation) on their basic indices – coefficients of horizontal and vertical dynamics, vehicle body acceleration, frame strength, and derailment stability coefficient. Methodology. The study was conducted by numerical integration and mathematical modeling of the freight car dynamic loading using the software package “Dynamics of Rail Vehicles” (“DYNRAIL”). Findings. As a result of the research for freight car dynamic coefficients determination taking into account technical conditions of the side bearers, the dependencies of the basic freight cars dynamic coefficients on the parameters of side bearers (the clearances in the side bearers and the wedge system conditions of the bogie swing suspension) considering running speed in the tangent and curved track sections of minor and mean radii were obtained. Originality. The impact of the technical condition of the car running gears on the traffic safety factors is determined. Practical value. The theoretical research results in determination of freight car dynamic indices taking into consideration the technical conditions of the side bearers of freight cars allow for an adequate assessment of effect of the freight car bogies’ technical conditions, namely the bearers parameters, on the railway traffic safety factors (coefficients of horizontal and vertical dynamics, vehicle body acceleration, frame strength and derailment stability coefficient).

    Determination of the Dynamic Characteristics of Freight Wagons with Various Bogie

    EN: In most cases, dynamic characteristics determine the wagon maintenance cycle, traffic safety, reliability and durability performance. The main dynamic indicators include the vertical Kvd and horizontal Khd dynamic coefficients as well as the stability coefficient Ks, which determines the wheel flange resistance to derailment. The article compares dynamic indications for three different types of bogies. There were no tangible differences observed for all the three different types of bogies running at a speed of 40 to 120 km/h on a direct tangent rail section. Nevertheless, there is a realistic potential to improve the dynamic indicators of a freight wagon by rationalising suspension unit parameters.

    Development of Recommendations for Extending the Useful life of Passenger Cars

    EN: Purpose. The vast majority of passenger car fleet of «Ukrzaliznytsia» have cars with outlasted service life. In this regard there is a need to find methods to justify the extending useful life of passenger cars and to assess the car body frame residual life conformity to the operating load for the next life time. Methodology. The selection of cars enforced technical diagnostics of cars to detect the level of corrosion and mechanical damage. The following steps provided the car body frame strength analysis on the basis of experimental static and impact strength tests, the longitudinal force effect endurance tests as well as assessment and forecasting of conformity of car body operating life for the next period. Findings The car survey before testing showed that the technical condition of sleeper cars (SSC) is better than that of open-type cars (SOC). So, in SSC cars the thinning of the main load-bearing elements due to corrosion does not exceed 10%, there are no cracks, deformations, rack breakages, etc. At the same time in SOC cars the thinning due to local corrosion reached 35%. There are deformations and corrosion damage of side sill Zshape of both cars, single corner post breakages, damage to the joints of longitudinal tie rod and span bolsters. The conducted static and impact strength tests with following strength assessment of the car structural members showed that the strength of the latter is provided according to the normative documents, and these cars pose no threat to traffic safety. The impact endurance tests showed that all the cars passed the endurance tests without damage, which would prevent from testing and could not be removed during the next depot repair or overhaul, and had life length that allows them to extend the useful life for the next period. Originality. The results of experimental studies show that passenger cars after 28 … 30 and 33… 35 years of operation meet the requirements of strength and safety in accordance with regulatory documents and allow, provided the impact endurance, reasonable extending of the car service life. Practical value. The part of the car fleet, which was to be written off based on the service life, may extend lifespan without additional measures.

    Development of Scientific School of Transportmechanics Artistic Legacy of Ye. P. Blokhin

    ENG: Purpose. Development of domestic and global transport science occurred due to the contributions of many scientists and practicing engineers. The purpose of our study is the analysis of scientific documentary legacy of YE. P. Blokhin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan and identifying his place and role in the development of modern railway transport. Methodology. Application of problem-chronological, comparative, descriptive historical methods of research, systematization and analysis of scientific papers allowed the authors to submit the actual history of the railway transport development (1950-2013) through the prism of YE. P. Blokhin scientific activity. We identified 6 main periods of his scientific activity. Findings. It was found out that the overall intellectual plant of the scientist includes 555 scientific papers (written personally and co-authored) in domestic and foreign publications on key issues of mechanics and operation of railway rolling stock. Artistic legacy of YE. P. Blokhin includes monographs, articles, reports, patents, author certificate, etc. It was found that the epistolary legacy of scientist, archive materials, his personal diaries, reference list of works of his students and followers are almost unexplored. Originality. Authors of the work for the first time in the history of science and technology of Ukraine conducted a complex study of the scientific legacy of YE. P. Blokhin in the context of railway transport. It is proved that the ideas, research, scientific works, implemented projects, numerous students and followers of YE. P. Blokhin are important factors, confirming a significant contribution of the scientist to the global engineering and transport science. Practical value. The work can be used to create historiographical papers and textbooks, to study the issues of formation and development of the scientific school for transport mechanics and university science of Ukraine in the railway branch, in the course of lectures on the subjects «History of railway transport development» and «Introduction to the profession».

    Dynamic Performance of Freight Cars on Bogies Model 18-1711

    EN: Purpose. To analyze the results of study of dynamic parameters of the tank-car model 15-1900 and gondola car model 12-1905, equipped with the bogies model 18-1711 with axle loading of 25 ton and unified according to major parts and joints with the cars of previous generation. According to results of the study to conclude about the possibility of using bogies model 18-1711 as the running parts of the freight rolling stock of the new generation of 1520 mm track with increased axle loading. Methodology. The dynamic performance of the rolling stock running parts directly affects the safety of railway traffic. Experimental studies of the car dynamic qualities are an important step in the modernization of existing bogie constructions and in the creation of the new ones. These tests allow one to confirm the results of theoretical studies and to check the correctness of the constructive solutions. Findings. Basic results of dynamic studies are presented as the graphs of dynamic performance dependencies on the motion speed of the experimental train. Results show that the freight cars on the bogies model 18-1711 have satisfactory dynamic properties meeting current regulatory requirements. Originality. The dynamic characteristics of freight cars on bogies model 18-1711, which give a complete view of the car loading allow us to estimate the dependency of the car dynamic performance on the bogie design parameters. Practical value. The bogie model 18-1711 with axle loading 25 ton can be used as a freight car undercarriages of the new generation of 1520 mm track.

    Ecologic and Economic Means of Stabilization and Improvement of Environment State at The Railway Transport

    EN: The problems of escalation of the ecological situation in the sphere and intensification of negative trends in many sections of transport technologies are conditioned by the proactive rate of transport development and peculiarities of its interaction with the objects of environment. Objective. The required stage of the modern approach to formation of effective system of ecological management at railway station is creation of special eco-informational system that will the possibility to give an objective evaluation of ecological and economic losses, both in the process of natural resource management and in cases of accidents with negative ecological consequences. Methodology. Development of environment management systems at organization of natural resources management on the base of modern information technologies will give the possibility not only to reduce the frequency of situations, associated with the environment elements pollution, but also to optimize organization of the natural resources management, as high concentration of resources may lead to emergency in adjacent regions of mutually exclusive types of anthropogenic activity. Scientific novelty and practical relevance. There is developed the system of the environment ecological state management is intended for definition of the best options for the natural resources management development with consideration of ecological and economical factors. In the process of development of the scientific bases of the transport ecological safety development, there was carried out the analysis of three main conceptual approaches to safety definition. It is proved, that in recent years, due to measurement of the danger level on the base of introduction of the relevant factor, the proposed scientific and methodological apparatus gives the possibilities of operative management of ecological and economic risks at the railway through constant monitoring with the help of the GIS technologies and system analysis.

    Evaluation of Longitudinal Loading of Tank Trains During Motion in Longitudinal Changes of Gradient

    EN: Purpose. To research the tank train longitudinal loading during motion by track sections with changes of gradient. The trains of different length that consist of bogie tank wagons should be examined. Influence of cargo type on longitudinal loading of train during motion in concave section of track should be evaluated. Methodology. The level of the largest longitudinal forces was estimated by mathematical simulation. It was assumed that change of gradient is formed by two grades with baffle platforms, length 50 meters, so that the algebraic difference of limiting grades vary from 10 to 40 ‰, pitch 10 ‰. The initial speeds were 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 km/h. For evaluation of the longitudinal loading the regulating braking and motion «by coasting» was considered. For evaluation of buffing loads the entry to the concave gradient change of expanded train is considered, and in order to determine the quasi-static forces the compressed train is considered. Findings. As a result of calculations the dependencies of maximal longitudinal forces in the trains on the cargo type, the algebraic difference of the grades, the number of tank wagons, the initial speed, motion modes, and initial gaps condition in the train were obtained. Originality. The longitudinal loading of freight cars of different length formed by the similar bogie tank wagons with one locomotive was obtained. The locomotive is placed in the train head during motion in concave track sections with various algebraic difference of the grades «on coasting» and during the regulating braking mode. The obtained results can be used for parameters standardization of profile elevation of the track. Practical value. The obtained results show that during operation of tank trains on track sections of complex breakage the most dangerous is regulating braking of preliminary compressed trains during entering on concave parts of track. Level of the greatest buffing and quasi-static longitudinal forces is almost independent of cargo and slightly depends on the initial speed.

    EN: In work experimental researches of longevity and technical and operating parameters of diesel engine diesels are presented 10D100 with modified tribosystems. The last are instrumental in the rapid starting and decline of wear depending on time of starting, thus, such diesel practically on any speed and loading modes can be exploited without the promoted wear. At the modified shells of cylinders the wear of compression rings does not affect the size of breach of gases in carter. Thus, the modified tribosystems provide maximal longevity and providing of high technical and operating parameters of diesel engine.

    Experimental Research of Dynamic Qualities of Freight Cars with Bogies of Different Designs

    EN: Purpose. With the advent of new designs of freright cars the task of designing the more modern bogies, assessment of their dynamic properties depending on the type and structure of pecularities, accounting the axle loadings, providing the dynamic and running characteristics, meeting the conditions of impact on the track, stability, and frame forces intensity etc. becomes especially important. In order to launch the new production into manufacture and to assess the dynamic properties using different designs of bogies the running testes were conducted. They allowed one to compare the dynamic performance of the new bogie with the existing models. Methodology. The study was conducted using the method of numerical integration and mathematical modeling of dynamic loading of freight cars using the software package «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles» («DYNRAIL»). Findings. The results of studies of dynamic characteristics of open cars with new and worn wheels of bogie models 18-9771, 18-9770 and 18-578 in graphical and tabular form are presented. All figures are within the normative values and do not exceed the maximum admissible ones. Originality. When designing the bogie for loading 23.5 t/axle almost all available technical solutions to improve the characteristics of the freight car bogies (elastic bearers, cassette bearing in axle boxes, axle boxe adapter of original design, bilinear central spring suspension, etc.) were used. Practical value. As a result of the engineering works on projecting and manufacturing of the improved designs of freight car bogies a new design was received. It is highly competitive with the dynamic qualities of the best ones. Made choice of rational values of elastic-dissipative parameters of the bogie allows one to create standard series of running gears for freight cars for promising operating conditions. The results are of practical importance. They have found reflection in the number of author’s publications in special and semi-popular editions.

    Influence of Diagnostics of Axle Boxes of Freight Cars on Traffic Safety of the Railway Transport

    EN: Abstract. Failures of axle boxes of freight cars due to poor-quality repair and maintenance can be reduced by applying diagnostic methods and tools. Therefore, the study carried out a study of the influence of diagnostics of axle boxes of freight cars on traffic safety of the railway transport. To reduce the magnitude of risks arising from failures of axle box units of freight cars, it is proposed to use vibration diagnostics during maintenance and repair, and to exclude the human factor, it is proposed to completely eliminate the operator's influence on the conclusions of the diagnostic process. Also, a method for assessing the risks arising from failures of axle boxes of freight cars was developed. The presented method for assessing of traffic safety the railway transport allows you to determine and predict risks. Vibration diagnostics allows reducing the risks arising from failures of axle boxes of freight cars, thereby increasing the level of traffic safety up to 3.7 times. In this regard, it can be argued that the use of vibration diagnostics during the maintenance and repair of axle boxes of freight cars makes it possible to reduce the threats to human life and possible harmful environmental consequences on the railway transport.

    Influence of Frequency Characteristics of the Locomotive on Rational Values of Parameters of Its Vehicular Part

    EN: Ukraine rail freight turnover for more than 3/4 is provided by electric traction. Therefore, the efficiency of railway transportation is largely determined by a sufficient amount and reliability of electric locomotives fleet. One of the main directions in this problems solving is to increase of Ukraine railway transport efficiency is to equip it by quite powerful, reliable and economical locomotives with good dynamic properties. In order to determine the basic indicators that affect on the rational value of its vehicular part 's parameters, as well as on the capacity for work and the physiological condition of the locomotive crew, was carried out a frequency analysis of the elements of the locomotive design. For this stage of the research were compiled simultaneous differential equations due that were identified own resonant frequencies of oscillations of components of electric locomotive. The practical value of the whole complex of theoretical research is to develop an algorithm and program, selection of rational parameters and design scheme of the locomotive undercarriage. Carried further dynamic performance trials have shown that the calculation data obtained with the application of theoretical studies, fairly well correspond to the results of tests, which indicates on a good selection of the constructive scheme of vehicular parts.

    Investigation of Dynamic Characteristics of Gondola Cars on Perspective Bogies

    EN: Purpose. In this paper, it is necessary to examine the dynamic properties of the gondola car with bogies, model 18-1711 when it moves on straight and curved sections of a track. Methodology. The calculations were performed using the object-oriented programming on the program "Dynamics of Rail Vehicles" ("DYNRAIL" Myamlin S.V. registered 20.03.2003). Mathematical models of a gondola car and bogies 18-100 and 18-711 were created for the calculations. Findings. Dynamic performances comparison of the gondola car with bogies 18-1711 and the gondola car with bogies 18-100, obtained by calculation method was carried out. Originality. Firstly calculations in order to determine the dynamic properties of the gondola car with bogies 18-1711 when it moves on straight and curved sections of track were performed. At the same time an assessment of the dynamic characteristics of the gondola car was made. The following dynamic standards were determined: the coefficient of vertical dynamics (Cdv), the coefficient of horizontal dynamics (Cdh), and the safety factor against derailment (SFd). Track irregularities in vertical and horizontal transverse planes were assigned as perturbations. They should be so that the dynamic indexes of the widely used in operation gondola car on bogies model 18-100 keep in admissible range of speeds up to 80km / h for the empty gondola car and at speeds up to 90km / h for the loaded gondola cars. Practical value. As a result of the calculations and comparisons of their results, we have findings that the use of bogies with bilinear characteristic of the central suspension will improve the dynamic performances of gondola cars, currently operating on bogies, model 18-100. And by improving the dynamic performances it is possible to increase the permissible speeds of these cars motion.

    Mathematical Model of Wheelset Oscillations with Independent Wheel Rotation in the Horizontal Plane

    EN: Purpose. The work is devoted to the study of horizontal oscillation and the assessment of the motion stability of a single wheelset with independent wheel rotation, and to the comparison of stability indicators of the typical wheelset and the wheelset with independent wheel rotation. This is connected with the necessity to increase traffic speed of rolling stock, improve road safety and comfort of passengers. Methodology. To achieve this purpose we used the methods of mathematical simulation of railway rolling stock dynamics, as well as the linear algebra methods to assess the stability of solutions of the linear homogeneous differential equations. Findings. To solve the set task the design model of a single wheelset with independent wheel rotation was created. The wheelset is not a single solid body; each of the wheelset axles has a surplus degree of freedom. Thus, we obtained the system with 4 degrees of freedom. The design model allowed to obtain the system of linear homogeneous differential equations describing the oscillations of the represented wheelset in a horizontal plane on a straight track section. On the basis of the computer modeling were calculated the eigenvalues of the differential equation system coefficients and the asymptotic stability analysis of the wheelset motion with independent wheel rotation. The increment and the frequency of fluctuations were compared with similar indicators for the standard wheelset. The authors also discussed non-oscillatory forms of the wheelset motion and the issues of wheelset self-centering on the track. Originality. The result of the work is the mathematical model of the sinuous movement of a single wheelset, in two-dimensional formulation, with independent wheel rotation and the estimate of the dynamic indices during its motion on a straight track section without any irregularities. There were also proposed the ways to ensure the self-centering on the track of the wheelset with independent wheel rotation. Practical value. The developed mathematical model of the single wheelset motion with independent wheel rotation can be used to create the advanced designs of railway running gear of cars.

    The Modeling of Economic Efficiency of Products Carriage-Building Plant in Conditions of Dynamic Pricing

    EN: Purpose. The purpose of the work is modeling of economic efficiency of products manufactured by carriage-building plant in conditions of dynamic pricing for different levels to engineering industry controls. Methodology. Economic feasibility of engineering production estimate for economic performance indicators and efficiency is profitability. Profit is economic results, showing the absolute result of the activity of engineering production, excluding used resource. To determine the cost-effectiveness should be applied relative index – profitability, which characterizes the amount of profit received from each monetary unit invested in production. Findings. Indicator of the general level of profitability indicates the general production efficiency of the company and is determined by the ratio of the balance sheet profit to the amount of value of fixed assets and revolving funds. This figure shows how effectively the material resources of the enterprise, thus characterizing the efficiency of investing in the production of the monetary unit. In addition, this model allows doing the operational control of the economic efficiency of the engineering industry at a variety of price changes on the world market.     Research of Innovations of Diesel Locomotives and Bogies

    EN: During manufacturing of diesel locomotives, their basic parameters must be adapted to the requirements of that specific environment. One of the central issues is the choice of bogies. The article present the examples of selecting a bogie by using multi-criteria optimization methods. The methods are adapted for Siemens bogies models SF1, SF2, SF3 and SF6. The solutions obtained by different methods were compared, and shortcomings of certain multi-criteria optimization methods for selection of a bogie model according to its parameters were established.
