Determination of Stopping Distance of Unpowered Rolling Stock by Method of Sequential Braking
(Дніпропетровський національний університет залізничного транспорту імені академіка В. Лазаряна, Дніпропетровськ, 2015) Reidemeister, Alexey G.; Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.
EN: Purpose. In the paper it is necessary to estimate the determination accuracy of a car stopping distance during the test by the method of sequential braking. The method of sequential braking is applied for experimental evaluation of the stopping distances. Unlike the abandonment method when a sample car is disconnected from the tractive connection and they record the stopping distance of a single car from the moment of uncoupling to the moment of stop, the method of sequential braking involves stopping distance measurement of the tractive connection, the integrity of which in the course of the test is not affected, but its set (locomotive, locomotive with the track test car or with a sample car) at the different stages of the test is changed. Direct measuring of the stopping distance of a sample car is not possible using this way, it requires calculating of the stopping distance values of the tractive connection. This adversely affects the accuracy of the result, but it can increase the safety level of the test. Methodology. To evaluate the accuracy researches have conducted the numerical experiment, which simulated experimental processing of stopping distance values. An error was found by giving disturbance of basic data (stopping distance of tractive connection of different configuration) and analyzing the resulted scatter of readings (stopping distance of a single car). Findings. The study proved: 1) the relative error of car stopping distances value, with relative error of basic data 1%, made 3.3-19.7% (depending on the tractive connection variant). 2) the proposed ways of error reduction (without track test car, less-weighed-locomotive use) allowed declining the error to 2.15-5.1%. Originality. The methodology of error estimation of car stopping distances determination under tests by the method of sequential braking was proposed. Practical value. Work results make it possible to replace the running brake tests by the abandonment method, under which the integrity of tractive connections is broken, with safer testing by the method of sequential braking, providing the level of result accuracy of 2-5%.

Determining the Possibility of Using Removable Equipment for Transporting 20- and 40-Feet-Long Containers on an Universal Platform Wagon
(Technology Center, Kharkov, Ukraine, 2021) Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.; Shykunov, Oleksandr A.; Reidemeister, Alexey G.; Muradian, Leontii A.; Potapenko, O.
EN: An important role in the market of transport services belongs to container transportation. Railroads, especially under the conditions of increased competition from road transport, must respond quickly to the needs of the market and the growing demand for container transportation, including interstate traffic. Demand for container transportation can vary significantly during the year, which testifies to the expediency of introducing removable equipment on universal railroad freight cars that are involved in the deliveries of containers. This paper reports the design of a removable frame structure for a universal platform that could carry two 20-ft or one 40-ft container. The proposed technical solution does not require changes in the structure of the car and changes in its model; with a decrease in the demand for container transportation, it would allow this car to be used for its main purpose. According to the current methodology, the efforts that operate on the frame during the transportation of containers have been determined. The strength of the proposed structure was estimated by a finite-element method. The maximum stresses arising in the proposed structure are 164.4 MPa; they occur in the corners of the stops attached to the stand-up staples of the platform. The resulting stress values do not exceed the allowable ones. The results of calculating the removable equipment indicate its sufficient strength. Requirements for placing cargo on the rolling stock assume a mandatory check to fit the dimensions, which confirmed that the container hosted by the frame does fit them. The proposed structure makes it possible to abandon disposable fastening parts, improve the safety of container transportation, and increase competitiveness in the container transportation market.

Human Factor Influence on Performing Technical Maintenance and Repair of Freight Cars
(Дніпропетровський національний університет залізничного транспорту імені академіка В. Лазаряна, Дніпро, 2018) Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.
EN: Purpose. The scientific work is aimed to: 1) study the indicators and criteria for evaluating the influence of hu-man factor on failure-free operation of freight cars; 2) theoretically describe the probabilistic model of the human factor role during the maintenance and repair of freight cars according to technical state; 3) consider the model of situation development for the case of a critical defect of the freight car unit taking into account the human factor. Methodology. In order to achieve this purpose, the methodological approaches were considered: 1) to evaluation of the reliability indicators in the system «man – freight car» during maintenance and repair; 2) to evaluation of the level of traffic safety in case of transition from the existing system of maintenance and repair of freight cars to the system according to technical state. The model of the situation development for the case of a critical defect of the freight car unit with the consideration of the human factor was described. Findings. The approach to the evaluation of risk indicators of potential failures of freight cars is given. The probability of occurrence of negative events (risks) and possible economic damage from their manifestation were taken as the indicators. In the developed model of situation development for the case of a critical defect of the freight car unit with the consideration of the human factor, three possible states are shown: workable and limited workable, unworkable and emergency. Each initial state is characterized by the development of events, which is associated with designers` errors, with defects during manufacture of parts and units, with human factor. Originality. It is proposed to consider the value of the failure probability, which is related to the human factor, as a certain proportion of the overall probability of failure of the system «man – freight car». The interpretation of Harrington's desirability function for the case of application to freight cars is given. During maintenance and repair, it is suggested to introduce an indicator that characterizes the observance of the technology of use of maintenance services for freight cars, taking into account the human factor. Practical value. Based on the conducted research it is possible to evaluate the influence of the human factor on the maintenance and repair of freight cars. According to the developed model of situation development for the case of a critical defect it is possible to determine the critical level of the defect of the freight car unit taking into account the human factor to limit the risk of an accident or transport event.

Improvement of the Open Wagon for Cargoes which Imply Loading with a "Hat"
(IOP Publishing, 2020) Reidemeister, Alexey G.; Muradian, Leontii A.; Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.; Shykunov, Oleksandr A.; Kyryl’chuk, Oleg A.; Kalashnyk, Volodymyr O.
EN: The goal of the article is to evaluate the possibility of improving the design of an open wagon body in order to improve traffic safety when transporting cargoes whose height is beyond the upper belt of the side wall (cargo loading with a “hat”). To achieve it, the authors have proposed a variant of a pull-out bar in a wall rack. In lazy state such bars located inside racks, but during transportation of timber, pipes etc they are pulled out above the wall upper belt to prevent cargo from rolling out. These bars are quite light (mass of one pull-out bar is equal to 3 kg, that corresponds to 36 kg of an additional equipment per a wagon), but they considerably facilitate fixing cargo in an open wagon replacing additional wooden fixing racks. It also makes the transportation more reliable due to elimitation the possibility of skew and jamming of fixing equipment. Strength of the proposed element and the entire wagon side wall is estimated with the finite element method. The proposed bars withstand normative loads, and holes in the upper belt for them do not lead to desrease of the wall carrying capacity.

Predictive Model of Risks in Railroad Transport when Diagnosing Axle Boxes of Freight Wagons
(SAGE Publishing, 2023) Muradian, Leontii A.; Pitsenko, Iryna; Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.; Shvets, Angela O.; Shvets, Anzhelika O.
ENG: This article presents a mathematical model of the risk of failures, depending on the operating parameters, of locomotive diesel engines. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk of failures of locomotive diesel engines in maintenance. The theory of probability and the theory of logic and reliability are used in this theoretical study. The innovations and main works are the first approaches to calculating the risk of failures of locomotive diesel engines by hourly fuel consumption, which, under operational conditions, allows for extending the life of locomotive diesel engines during maintenance. As a result, a maintenance process for 5D49 diesel engines is developed in a locomotive depot. When managing the maintenance processes of 5D49 diesel engines in the locomotive depot, it is determined that the optimal mileage is 45,000 km. The resource of 5D49 diesel engines in the locomotive depot increased by 2.4% in the management of the maintenance process compared to the existing maintenance system.

Predictive Model of Risks in Railroad Transport when Diagnosing Axle Boxes of Freight Wagons (preiew)
(SAGE Publishing, 2022) Muradian, Leontii A.; Pitsenko, Iryna; Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.; Shvets, Angela O.; Shvets, Anzhelika O.
ENG: The research is aimed at developing a predictive model of the risks in railroad transport when using diagnostics of the axle boxes of freight wagons, which will allow assessing traffic safety during the operation of freight wagons. To develop a predictive model of the risks in railroad transport, the approaches of the probability theory were used. The constructed predictive model of the risks makes it possible to assess traffic safety during freight transportations; to determine further measures to reduce them; to evaluate the diagnostic method. The authors developed a predictive model of the risks in railroad transport when using the diagnostic methods of freight wagons’ axle boxes during maintenance and repair of axle box. This model includes the probability of failure-free operation of the axle boxes of freight wagons, the probability of identifying of the technical condition of the axle boxes of freight wagons, the significance of the diagnostic parameter and its relative assessment after appropriate maintenance, repair or technical control.

The Results of Brake Tests of the DPKr-3 Diesel Train
(IOP Publishing, 2020) Dovhaniuk, Stepan S.; Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.; Shykunov, Oleksandr A.; Shatunov, Oleksandr V.; Vyslohuzov, Viktor T.
EN: SC "Ukrzaliznytsia" purchased the first of three planned regional three-car (two main motor cars and one intermediate) diesel train DPKr-3 manufactured by PJSC “Kryukovsky railway car building works”. To confirm the declared characteristics and safety indicators of the DPKr-3 diesel train, specialists department of Cars of Dnipro National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan conducted complex certification tests, which confirmed the compliance of the stated parameters. One of the points of the Terms of Reference was to determine the brake pressure of the linings per 100 weight of the train in terms of cast iron brake pads. For this purpose, according to the methodology adopted in the territory of the former CIS, force sensors, which were installed in the tick mechanisms instead of the brake linings, measured the magnitudes of the forces of pressing the brake linings on the disks. However, during the tests it was found out that the current standards for calculating the provision of train brakes cannot be applied to modern rolling stock. It is recommended for rolling stock where the use of brake pads, and even more cast iron, is not provided by the design, to develop normative documents that would determine the standards for brakes by the results of calculations and tests.

Theoretical Studies on the Process of Change of the Technical Condition of Freight Cars in Operation
(Дніпропетровський національний університет залізничного транспорту ім. акад. В. Лазаряна, Дніпро, 2018) Shaposhnyk, Vladyslav Yu.
EN: Purpose. The scientific work is intended to investigate the technical condition of freight cars during their operation. The said purpose involves solving the following tasks: 1) to describe the technical condition of a freight car during the maintenance and repair period; 2) to determine the dependences of the probability of a freight car being in working condition during the life cycle; 3) to specify the expression for the technical availability ratio of the car fleet. Methodology. To achieve the purpose, the author examined the methodological approaches to the definition of various stages of the freight car life cycle. The system of change and transition of the technical condition of the freight car is described using differential equations. Findings. In the case of an unstable process of changing the technical condition of a freight car, the probabilistic characteristic of the appropriate life cycle stage depends on the amount of time. The intensity of the input and output flows are correlated with each other, taking into account the probability of a freight car being at the appropriate stage of its life cycle. Originality. Transitions from one car life cycle to another occur in discrete steps, that is, such transitions are characterized by a random process. The probability of a freight car being at the appropriate life cycle is determined by its prior technical condition. The total value of the set of all possible conditions consists of the Markov chain for random processes with random states and a continuous flow of time. The study resulted in obtaining, for the first time, of the dependence of the probability of a freight car being in working condition during the life cycle. Practical value. On the basis of the obtained definition for the probability of the freight car being in working condition the expression for the technical availability ratio of the car fleet was clarified.
