Item Accessibility of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library for Students with Disabilities: An Evaluation(Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro, 2024) Marwiyah; Labibah Zain; Asri Yuna Chasanawati; Khusnul KhotimahENG: Objective. This research aims to identify the accessibility of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library for users with disabilities to uncover the gap between the standard of library services for people with disabilities and the condition of the library to support an accessible environment. Methods. This research applies qualitative methods to explore the accessibility of library services for users with disabilities using the IFLA checklist, a standard for providing library services for people with disabilities consisting of 3 main areas; physical access, media format, and service and communication. Results. UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library has met the most of criteria for providing services for users with disabilities. Physical access covering the area outside the library, entry to the library and access to library collections and services, is largely in accordance with the standard. However, the absence of an elevator prevents users with wheelchairs from accessing to upper floor in which the library collections are stored which means that access to library collections is hindered. To address this problem, the library provides the Difable Corner, a department for users of all types of disabilities. The research also found that for library collections, the library provides more for the blind, while for the deaf it is still not maximized. Therefore, the library, in collaboration with the Center for Disabilities Service provides volunteers to students for whom inclusion requirements have not yet been met. Conclusion. Being under the parent institution that promotes inclusive value requires UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library to provide an inclusive environment that welcomes all users regardless of their abilities. The library has made some effort to fulfill the standards for providing a library for the disabled. The gap between ideal standards and real conditions in the library related to accessibility for the disabled can be taken into consideration to improve inclusive-based library services.Item Improving the Inclusive Information Space: Introducing Chatbots into the Work of Academic Libraries(Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro, 2024) Shevchuk, Oleksandr A.; Saltykova, Anastasiia A.ENG: Objective. The purpose of the publication is to study the possibilities of using chatbots as one of the tools for developing an inclusive environment in an academic library. Methods. The study analyzed international experience and software for creating AI-based chatbots. Results. An academic library can use open-source software to create chatbots, but this method will require significant resources. An alternative is commercial services, which are quite easy to use but require monthly funding. Conclusions. Chatbot is a very promising direction for building an inclusive direction, and each library can choose how to create and use it according to its needs.Item Life Hacks for Non-English-Speaking Librarians: Features of Communicative Practice in Translation(Dnipro National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan, 2021) Osadchyi, Vitalii I.EN: Objective. This paper aims to provide practical recommendations to the non-English-speaking staff working at academic libraries to practice the English language in order to fully utilize the potential of global indexing services such as Scopus and Web of Science. Methods. Comparative analysis and bibliometric analysis were employed to estimate the share of the English-language journals in the aforementioned databases to emphasize the relevance of proper knowledge of English by academic librarians given its current status as the language of global scientific communication. Results. The analysis results revealed that as of August 2021, 56 % of the Scopus-indexed journals were published in the English language only while most of the rest practiced a hybrid language approach allowing their authors to submit papers in two/three languages. In contrast, only 7 journals (0.016 % in the cited database) published their materials in the Ukrainian language only. This indirectly testifies to the importance for scientists in Ukraine to report their findings in English to reach a wider target audience. This assumption may underlie the fact that all the 15 Ukrainian journals newly accepted in the Scopus database (as of Aug 2021) are all hybrid, that is, the papers are published both in English and Ukrainian. Conclusions. It is a relevant task both for researchers in Ukraine and academic librarians at Ukrainian universities to practice their knowledge of the English language given its current status as the language of global science. A practical way to do it is to engage local professional translators (preferably with certified teaching experience) who have confirmed their knowledge of academic English to conduct sessions for librarians to train their practical skills in speaking (at international conferences) and writing (when submitting papers to relevant journals). This work provides a reference framework for such attempts.Item Marketing Communications: Reading Promotion Programs in Academic Libraries(Dnipro National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan, 2020) Miamlina, Antonina V.EN: The article covers different forms of communication between library staff and its users including reading promotion. It is rather effective for libraries to communicate with the target audience. Nowadays libraries need to communicate with customers and academic libraries are not in the exception list. Academic library staff need to communicate and build strong relations with students, professors and staff of university. Target audience may be informed about the library, support of users or different events that take place in library space. Methods. Based on the analysis of scientific research, a list of potential communication channels has been identified. Library messages and reading promotion campaigns were also analyzed. Results. Part of library communication should be devoted to book reading promotion and reading programs. Library staff need to get acquainted with programming and marketing, because without this knowledge it is hard to fulfill main activity. Marketing is everywhere today, even in academic library activity. The article describes the main elements of communication between the academic library and the user: messages, channels, target audience and gives examples of information and advertising campaigns conducted by different libraries. Conclusions. Reading promotion programs maybe part of common library communication. Modern libraries start to communicate with their users, promote reading books and educate readers. It can be done with a budget on promotion and without it.Item Reaching Users Through Social Media: A Case Study on the Use of Instagram by Islamic Higher Education Libraries in Indonesia(Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro, 2023) Marwiyah; Labibah ZainENG: Objective. This research aims to identify the use of social media by Indonesian Islamic Higher Education Libraries to communicate with their users through their regular postings on Instagram and the users’ responses to them. Methods. This research applies quantitative methods to uncover data concerning the number of Instagram posts made by State Islamic University (UIN) libraries and the users’ responses (i.e. like, comment, share, and save), and then analyzes them using a qualitative approach to identify the users’ responses. Results. UIN libraries reach users by posting information related to libraries on Instagram that can be classified into eight types of posts; greetings, announcements, library promotions, book donations, quotes, and others. The number of responses to these types of posts varies from each library but posting information related to library services will invite most responses from library users. The library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is the most active library in posting information on Instagram. Conclusion. Instagram is a good medium to reach library users in UIN libraries. However, the availability of policies regarding the use of Instagram in the library is needed since it influences the number of posts on Instagram. Timing (i.e. when is the best time to make an Instagram post?) is also important since it makes a post get more responses.Item Transforming Libraries into Inclusive Spaces: The Paradigm and Functions of Living Collection in Academic Library of Indonesia(Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro, 2024) Firdaus, Fadlan Agustina; Saufa, Arina FailaENG: Objective. This research aims to understand the paradigm underlying the implementation of living collection services and the functions of living collection presented at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University library. Method. This research uses qualitative methods, with collecting the data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed by performing data reduction. After that, the data is presented in the form of text, images, and tables, followed by drawing conclusions related to the research questions. Result. The research results show that the living collection at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University library refers to inclusive and knowledge management paradigm. The inclusive paradigm helps libraries strive for the dissemination of information to all users without exception, while the knowledge management paradigm allows libraries to manage and maintain rare information that can be accessed into the future. Living Collection as inclusive service present any functions namely educational, information, preservation, research, and recreational functions. Conclusions. By using an inclusive and knowledge management paradigm, living collections represent many functions that help libraries transforming new face to become inclusive-based libraries that can be enjoyed by all communities.
